Athens—city-state that excelled in the arts; had the FIRST democracy

Sparta—military city-state

Alexander the Great—spread Greek Culture

Greece Empire—on timeline came first!

Parthenon—temple to Athena in Athens

III.Rome. These are the terms you must know:

Consuls— two leaders voted on by the Roman Republic

Julius Caesar—was assassinated because he made himself dictator of Rome

Caesar Augustus—first Roman Emperor—started the Pax Romana

Pax Romana—time of peace in the Roman Empire that lasted 200 years

Latin—the language that the Romans spoke
